Christmas Gifts for the Happy Season by Mira Lash
A gift is something that makes (or should make) the receiver happy. Christmas is a season for joy and happiness and Christmas gifts enhance the festive spirit.
The Significance of Christmas Gifts
The practice of giving Christmas gifts follow a long established social practice of exchanging gifts to indicate love, friendship and other sentiments of a positive nature. You might reward children for their good behavior, cement social relationships, or just wish to make the gift recipient happy.
For Christmas, gifts could have other connotations. Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ. Bible speaks of Christ being born in a manger surrounded by farm animals. The Star of Bethlehem guided the Three Wise Men to Jesus. The Wise Men made gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the child Jesus.
The birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus itself is seen as a gift to humankind, to save them from eternal damnation for their sins.
Christmas gifts thus have significance in many ways.
Limoges and Christmas Gifts
Limoges is a city and commune in France, which had achieved fame for superior porcelain products in the 19th century itself.
Porcelain is an ideal material for producing gift items. Porcelain can be shaped into desired shapes, and the shape could then be made permanent through firing in kilns at 1000 plus degrees Celsius. The material has a classy finish that could be enhanced through painting with enamel, for example. The overall result is that appropriate porcelain items could please almost any receiver, which is a primary aim of giving gifts.
Small porcelain figurines, or trinket boxes shaped into such figurines, would be ideal Christmas gifts. There are Limoges porcelain trinket boxes that come in the shapes of Baby Jesus, Angel, Farm Animals, the Three Wise Men, Mary and Joseph. There are also Nativity sets that include all the above figurines, recreating the birth of Christ in a manger with the Star of Bethlehem leading the Three Wise Men to the scene.

You need not worry that you would be giving a gift that everybody else has thought of. These Limoges porcelain figurines are collectible items, the more the better. They are also ideal for re-gifting by the receiver even if exact duplicates happen to be received by the person. Porcelain retains its new look, never getting stained.
